EXTREMELY SERIOUS SECURITY AND HEALTH WARNING – READ CAREFULLY BEFORE DECIDING
Liberia is in a recovery phase after decades of devastating civil war (1989-2003) and the Ebola epidemic (2014-2016). While the situation has improved, infrastructure remains extremely limited, crime rates are high, and the healthcare system is weak. Most governments advise their citizens to carefully reconsider or avoid travel to Liberia.

Liberia, “The Land of Freedom,” is the most unique African nation with a history founded by freed American slaves (1847), the only African country never fully colonized. From the capital Monrovia named after President James Monroe to the pristine beaches of Robertsport, from Sapo National Park with its virgin rainforest to the unique Americo-Liberian culture, Liberia offers a different yet challenging West African experience. There are no direct flights from Vietnam, transit through West Africa, the Middle East, or Europe is mandatory and extremely complicated.
Overview of Liberia's Air Transport System
Roberts International Airport (ROB)located in Harbel, 50-60km from Monrovia, is the main and only gateway of international significance. The airport has a 3,200m runway, has been upgraded with a new terminal but still has limited capacity, serving only about 100,000 passengers annually.
Spriggs Payne Airport (MLW)in Monrovia primarily serves domestic flights with a short 1,500m runway.
Harsh Realities: Liberia has very few international flight options, flight schedules change frequently and can be canceled due to weather or technical issues.
